ROBOT

Spool Robot allows to perform automatically a set of actions every time a report is created the AS/400.

There are two versions of Spool Robot:

  • Standard, which is enclosed in Spool Painter.
It can intercept the AS/400 report when it is created, and it can run a rule of Spool Painter to obtain a graphical report of any printer of the network.

  • Extended, subject to the licence.
It can intercept the AS/400 report when it is created, and it can run a rule of Spool Painter to obtain:

    • PDF, RTF or HTML files from Spool Painter's rule.

    • Word, Html, Txt file, etc. by coping the report without applying particular.

    • Structured files (Excel, Access, dBII, dBIII, etc.) from Spool Office rule.

This version of Spool Robot can run further rules (Robot Rules) which allows extracting data from the report before running the actions you set, to obtain:

  • The spool segmentation
This action has the aim to extract from the spool all the pages relevant to a block, and run the actions expected in the single block.
Ex: If a spool contains 70 pages related to 30 invoices of 18 different customers, it is possible to set a segmentation rule that divides the spool in 30 blocks (one for each invoice) or in 18 blocks (one for each customer).

  • Extraction of fields from the single segment
From every segment of the report (or from the report as a whole) it is to extract the content of determined position of the report to:

  • Give a name to the file

  • Detect the Fax number and E-mail, directly from the report or from a specially provided address book through the printed data (ex: Company name + Forwarding address)

  • Compose the subject and the text for Fax and E-mail, by linking constants and data present in the report.

  • The document storing
The graphical documents created in PDF format can be stored in a folder, to be consulted by the network users.
In the same way you can store the EXCEL or WORD files created by Spool Office.

Spool Robot is a PC application that after being activated performs the following function:

  • Searches for the AS/400 controlled report, at regular intervals

  • Segments the reports as we described previously

  • Reproduces the graphical version of the report under its control or creates (Spool Office or Spool Painter)

  • Sends Fax and E-mail

  • Holds, deletes or moves to another queue the original reports according to what you set in the operation parameters of the report itself.

The time of the robot's intervention, which marks every how many seconds the action of searching and printing must begin, is set in the robot's definition parameters.

For each report to treat it is necessary first of all to execute the steps of the project, the test of test and, at the end when every thing is correct, you have to connect the report with the robot to reproduce it automatically.

You can set one or more robots, according to your needs.
For example you can set a robot to process the reports as invoices or bills which are generally short and frequent, and another one for longer reports which can be delayed
without problem.

Every AS/400 report you have to manage must be linked with a robot that intercepts its output. For this purpose the AS/400 reports must reside in a queue without printers to avoid them to be printed before being intercepted.

Those printer queues can be linked with a data queue that receives a signalling every time a new report is ready to be printed in the queue.
The robot can search for the new reports through the test of this dada queue to detect directly (and with very few resources of the system) if there are new reports to process.
